Build your credit — one on-time rent payment at a time.

Every month you pay rent on time, we report it to Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. The average RLI renter finishes a 12-month term 40–80 FICO points higher.

How credit reporting works

Your rent is already a proof of financial reliability — but historically, it hasn't counted toward your credit score. RLI changes that. Because we're insuring your rent payment, we have verified visibility into every on-time payment. We report those payments as a positive tradeline to all three major bureaus.

What gets reported

  • On-time rent payments — as a positive trade line
  • Consistent payment history over 6 or 12 months
  • Length of your rental tenure

What does not get reported

  • The RLI premium itself (this is insurance, not debt)
  • Any personal financial details outside your rent payment history
  • Missed payments — we work with you privately before any bureau sees anything
The average score lift.

Across completed 12-month RLI policies, the median FICO improvement is +58 points. Renters starting under 580 see larger average gains; renters starting near 650 see smaller, but often enough to cross into the next tier on their renewal.

The graduation path

RLI is designed as a bridge, not a permanent fixture. Here's what happens at renewal:

  • Year 1: You carry RLI to secure the lease. Your rent is reported. Your FICO rises.
  • Year 2 renewal: You're often eligible for a better tier — or no RLI at all. Premium drops or disappears.
  • Year 3+: Most policyholders no longer need RLI. Your credit profile is strong enough to stand on its own.

See your progress

Your dashboard shows a month-by-month view of what's been reported, and projects where your score is heading. We pull a fresh soft credit update every quarter to show you the trajectory — no FICO impact.

FAQ on credit reporting

Will applying hurt my score?

No. RLI only uses soft credit checks, which do not affect your FICO. There is no hard pull at any point in the RLI application or policy lifecycle.

When do the bureaus see my first payment?

We submit your first report 30 days after your policy activates. Bureau processing typically takes an additional 2–4 weeks, so expect your first visible change in 6–8 weeks.

What if I miss a payment?

Reach out to us immediately. We work with you on a short-term resolution — grace period, payment plan, or advance against your policy — before any bureau reporting is affected. A private resolution with RLI keeps your credit building on track.
