What the application covers
The full application takes 8–12 minutes. You'll upload (or snap pictures of) a few documents, answer a few questions, and authorize a soft credit check. We use bank-grade encryption and never store your documents after underwriting.
1 · Identity
- Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID)
- A quick selfie to match the ID — done from your phone, takes 30 seconds
2 · Income
- Two most recent pay stubs, or
- A secure bank connection via Plaid (60 seconds), or
- Three months of bank statements (for self-employed applicants)
3 · The unit
- Property address and monthly rent
- Landlord or property manager contact info
- Lease term and planned start date
4 · Credit check
We run a soft pull through Experian. This does not affect your FICO. We use it to confirm your tier and finalize your premium. If your underwritten rate differs from your quote, we'll show you before you commit.
RLI will never ask for your SSN by email, a wire transfer deposit, or payment before your policy is issued. If you see a request like that, it's not us.
What happens after you submit
- Within minutes: Automated checks confirm identity and income.
- Within a few hours: Underwriting issues a decision. Most applicants are approved same-day.
- On approval: We issue your coverage letter and send it straight to your landlord.
